POLICE DEPARTMENT2 days agoAgencyAggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon (PEORIA, IL) Thursday, June 13, 2024, at approximately 4:12 p.m. members of the Peoria Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division (CID) with the assistance of a License Plate Reader (LPR) located a vehicle connected to a recent shooting investigation. (#24-11735) Officers observed the vehicle come to a stop in the 7500 block of N. Grand Prairie Drive with two male juveniles and one adult male inside. Police immediately detained the three males and conducted a search of the vehicle where a handgun was located inside. The males ages 17, 22, and 17 were transported to the Peoria Police Department for interviewing purposes. One of the juveniles was subsequently arrested for Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, No FOID, and Possession of a Handgun Under 21. He was transported to the Juvenile Detention Center. The other two males were later released. The Peoria County Treasurer's Office has been made aware of scam letters that have been delivered in the area claiming that the recipients' taxes have not been paid in full. The letter (seen here) is not an official Peoria County communication despite having our name on the top. There are a few ways to tell that this is a scam: 1.) The letter uses scare tactics combined with a sense of urgency, such as the instructions to act on a debt within only a few days of the letter being sent. 2.) The phone number on the letter can't be found on any official Peoria County materials, such as our website. 3.) The letter does not have any sort of address to visit or send physical materials to, such as the Peoria County Courthouse. POLICE DEPARTMENT3 days agoAgencyArmed Robbery (UPDATE BELOW) (PEORIA, IL) Monday, April 8, 2024, at approximately 12:36 p.m. Peoria Police responded to a business in the 500 block of Spring Street regarding an Armed Robbery. When officers arrived, they made contact with a business employee who told police a male subject entered the store and displayed a handgun. The suspect then took money from a customer and fled the scene on foot. No one was injured. Officers conducted a search of the area for the suspect with negative results. This incident is under investigation. There is currently no suspect information. Wilcox regarding a domestic dispute between an adult male and an adult female. When officers arrived, they located a male matching the suspect description. The male identified as 40-year-old Deontrae M. Jordan was immediately taken into custody without incident. Officers also located a loaded handgun near Jordan. The female sustained minor injuries and refused medical treatment. Jordan was subsequently arrested for Aggravated Domestic Battery, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Attempted First Degree Murder. He was transported to the Peoria County Jail. Martin Luther King on a report of trouble with a male. Police were also alerted that the male was armed with a handgun. While en route officers located two adult males fleeing from the above location. After a brief foot chase police apprehended both males identified as 18-year-old Latrell D. Joiner and 19-year-old Marcus D. Foreman in the 600 block of W. Romeo B. Garrett Avenue. During a search of the subject’s flight path officers located a loaded handgun. Joiner was subsequently arrested for Aggravated Domestic Battery, Aggravated Assault, Obstructing Police, Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Defaced Firearm, Domestic Battery, and Possession of a Firearm without a Valid FOID Card. Foreman was arrested for Obstructing an Officer. Both subjects were transported to the Peoria County Jail. POLICE DEPARTMENT3 days agoAgencyAggravated Battery with a Firearm (PEORIA, IL) Thursday, June 13, 2024, at approximately 12:02 a.m. Peoria Police responded to the 400 block of N. Richard Pryor Place regarding a series of Shot Spotter alerts indicating 26, 16, 7, and another 7 rounds fired respectively in the same location. While en route officers were notified by dispatch that a person had been struck by gunfire. The victim, a 17-year-old female was located by police in the 800 block of RB Garrett Avenue with a gunshot wound to the leg. The juvenile was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Members of the Peoria Police Department’s Crime Scene Unit (CSU), and Patrol Unit responded to the location where the shots were fired and initiated an investigation. There is currently no suspect information. This incident is under investigation.
